You know IBM Connections right? What you might not know is, that we make it even more powerful, useful, better, tidier with DomainPatrol Social

And now it’s soon available for IBM Connections 6.

We can in 4 clicks merge two whole Communities. With everything in it! Neat and tidy. With the same function you can move and merge almost all content, like Wikis, Files, Communities, Activities, Users etc. All solving complex questions and issues from users and admins.

In our session we show real life examples how our customers have used DomainPatrol Social to:

  • use IBM Connections more. Sometimes users are afraid of submitting content as they don’t know where to put it
  • to upgrade their environment
  • to merge in companies they bought – with lots of new users and content
  • to handle movements of staff in the organisation
  • to handle unused and orphan content that clogs up the environment

Detach your content from the predefined places, and go social!

As you know, DomainPatrol Social is the best tool for administering IBM Connections, for moving and merging almost all content and managing users.

In our new release we are introducing Reports. You can now get detailed statistics about the usage of your IBM Connections environment. For example when a Community was last updated, how many active/inactive owners it has and the sizes of all components and widgets. You can see the usage of Personal Files, how many there are, last update, active/inactive owners etc. The same goes for Wikis, Activities, Blogs, CCM, Community Files and Forums.

Official announcement from IBM – Extending support for Notes/Domino 9.0.1 to 2021

Posted by:

IBM announcent today that they will extend their support for IBM Notes/Domino 9.0.1 to September 2021. There has been some discussion in the community about Notes/Domino and IBMs future plan for the platform. What we know for a fact now is that Notes/Domino will be around to at least 2021. We also know that the IBM Domino Server is a core part of IBM Verse (and Verse on-prem is soon to be released) and that IBM is adding new functionality to the platform, like the possibility to use MS Outlook as your email client with IBM Domino Server as the backend. We also know that IBM will release Fix Pack 7 (FP7) for IBM Notes/Domino 9.0.1 in September 2017 which is a scheduled maintenance release, containing several bug fixes and some new features.

Will there be a IBM Notes/Domino 9.0.2 or maybe a 9.1.0? Or will IBM Verse take over as the platform name, only time will tell…

So what about todays announcement, that is IBM telling us? Well support for version 9 of IBM Notes, IBM Domino, IBM Notes Traveler, and IBM Enterprise Integrator are extended to September 2021. Support for the following associated entitlements is also extended to September 2021:

  • IBM Sametime® V9.0 Limited Use
  • IBM Domino Designer V9.0.1
  • IBM Mobile Connect V6.1.5
  • IBM Domino Global Workbench V9.0.1

IBM is also adding entitlement to your Notes/Domino license to use some IBM Connections 5.5 features. The features we are talking about is the Files and Profiles features.

  • The Files feature helps users easily share content with other people and removes the need to send large files through email
  • The Profiles feature helps users find the people they need by searching across the organization

DomainPatrol Social and Social Connections

Posted by:

Let us present to you the perfect way to keep your IBM Connections environment in shape!

DomainPatrol Social is a very competent product which solves most challenges both IT and Business experience. Certainly when it comes to Content and User Administration in IBM Connections.

For example if you have several communities, with similar purpose or content, you can use the function Merge Communities to merge them into one Community. Or Move Communities in and out of one another. The same applies to all kinds of content including Files, Blogs, Wikis, Libraries and Activities.

New projects starts, others end. The organization is constantly changing and consequently your needs.

Other situations we can solve is when people get new roles in your organization or leaves the organization. Orphan content is a common problem and DomainPatrol Social has several ways to solve it. One is Complete User Management for Files, Blogs, Wikis. Another is Copy User Access to transfer all, or some of the access that user A had to user B and/or user C. Problem solved!

Sometimes one user ends up with two profiles in IBM Connections. Perhaps they started off as a consultant or external user and now they are permanent employees. No worries. Use the function Merge Profiles. All content from both profiles are merged into one. Phew! No more unhappy users that can't access their stuff.

Make sure your users trust IBM Connections with their highly valued business content.

IBM Connections using Active Directory and Nested Groups

Posted by:

Case:
Customer wants to use nested groups in Access control for Communities, also it should be reflected in I'm a Member when user is looking for their communitys and so on. Connections was 4.5CRx

Google search Links that where tried, but did not work for me (for some reason unknown).

Found something that worked for me (seems logical looking at the description).

Description:
All groups specified user belongs to, including due to group nesting (Notes 10, 19)
eg. (member:1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941:=cn=Jim Smith,ou=West,dc=Domain,dc=com)
All members of specified group, including  due to group nesting (Note 10)
eg. (memberOf:1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941:=  cn=Test,ou=East,dc=Domain,dc=com)
Note 10.
The string 1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941 specifies LDAP_MATCHING_RULE_IN_CHAIN. This applies only to DN attributes. This is an extended match operator that walks the chain of ancestry in objects all the way to the root until it finds a match. This reveals group nesting. It is available only on domain controllers with Windows Server 2003 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 (or above).

NOTE:
All of this is of course done in the context of Deployment Manager.
After doing the changes a full resynch needs to be done with all nodes in the cluster (sometimes also take down node and use synchNode from the node) and restart the node.

Solution is to change my setting in Websphere to reflect this:
nestgroup1
nestgroup2
nestgroup3

Also changed for performance reasons the following (optional):
Reason:
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSAW57_8.0.0/com.ibm.websphere.wim.doc/disablingnestedgroupsearches.html
Solution is to change according to instructions

How does it look in the files before and after the change, here are snippets of this:

wimconfig.xml before the change:
      <config:groupConfiguration>
        <config:memberAttributes name="member" objectClass="group" scope="nested"/>
        <config:membershipAttribute name="memberof" scope="nested"/>
      </config:groupConfiguration>

wimconfig.xml after the change:
      <config:groupConfiguration>
        <config:memberAttributes name="member:1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941:" objectClass="group" scope="nested"/>
        <config:membershipAttribute name="memberOf:1.2.840.113556.1.4.1941:" scope="nested"/>
      </config:groupConfiguration>

security.xml before the change (you can not cut and paste any of these because some parameters are unique to your environment):
  <userRegistries xmi:type="security:WIMUserRegistry" xmi:id="WIMUserRegistry_1" serverId="" serverPassword="{xor}" realm="defaultWIMFileBasedRealm" ignoreCase="true" useRegistryServerId="false" primaryAdminId="wasadmin" registryClassName="com.ibm.ws.wim.registry.WIMUserRegistry"/>

security.xml after the change (you can not cut and paste any of these because some parameters are unique to your environment):
  <userRegistries xmi:type="security:WIMUserRegistry" xmi:id="WIMUserRegistry_1" serverId="" serverPassword="{xor}" realm="defaultWIMFileBasedRealm" ignoreCase="true" useRegistryServerId="false" primaryAdminId="wasadmin" registryClassName="com.ibm.ws.wim.registry.WIMUserRegistry">
    <properties xmi:id="VMMURProperty_1" name="com.ibm.ws.wim.registry.grouplevel" value="1"/>
